ALIXCLAV is a combination antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Amoxicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic that works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to bacterial death. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents bacteria from breaking down amoxicillin, thereby enhancing its effectiveness against beta-lactamase-producing resistant bacteria. This combination is effective against a broad spectrum of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis; urinary tract infections; skin and soft tissue infections; ear infections like otitis media; throat infections such as pharyngitis and tonsillitis; and some gastrointestinal infections.
